Alan C. Pope High School was founded in 1987. It is a Standard Public School of the State
of Georgia and is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. In 1989,
Pope received the prestigious Georgia Blue Ribbon of Excellence in only its second year of
operation. The school mascot is the greyhound. The original school colors were Columbia blue
and silver grey. In the 1990's Navy and white were added.
Pope has an enrollment of approximately 1,800 students. The student body is very active,
with over 50% participating in athletics and 90% participating in extracurricular activities.
Approximately 90% of our graduates go on to college; 80% attend four-year colleges and
universities while 10% choose two-year colleges. Pope students achieve high scores on the
SAT each year and lead Cobb County in GA High School Graduation Test scores.

Safe
American Foundation
All Safe America driver education courses are licensed by the State of Georgia Department of
Driver Services. Each student will attend 30 hours of classroom training, which includes the
State-required Alcohol and Drug Awareness (ADAP) training. Students will also complete either
6 hours or 10 hours of private, individual behind-the-wheel training with a licensed driver
training instructor. The behind-the-wheel training is performed in individually scheduled 2-hour
increments which must occur within the 6 months following the classroom training. This is scheduled
after completion of classroom instruction.
Marietta/Cobb Driver's Education
Marietta/Cobb Driver’s Education is a joint program of the Marietta and Cobb County school systems.
Our courses are offered to all high school students and they do not have to attend Marietta
or Cobb County schools. Marietta/Cobb Driver’s Education provides high quality, low cost
instruction for teen drivers with the goal of saving lives.
